Whether it’s the idea of something different than how we know it, or actual belief behind the facts, conspiracy theories have taken over a large portion of the internet. From the ideas of flesh-eating lizards ruling us to theories of parallel universes, the endless ideas and theories can easily make your head reel. Believer or not, it is quite interesting to think about and question the world around us. Here are 6 conspiracy theories I love that just may make you question what you thought you knew.
1. The Mandela Effect
The term coined “The Mandela Effect” comes from the first huge Mandela Effect to come about when people believed Nelson Mandela had died in the 1980’s instead of when he actually died in December of 2013. The idea behind the Mandela Effect conspiracy theories is that many people remember something as one thing when in fact, it shows itself as something different. A popular example, many people remember the Berenstain Bears as the Berenstein Bears. The popular show was remembered by so many as the “Berenstein Bears” and curious individuals began to dig through old memorabilia to prove the point. Pictures began to come out of old VCR tapes and books with “Berenstein” opposed to “Berenstain” sending people out with more questions than before.
2. The Butterfly Effect
The Butterfly Effect is another conspiracy except this one revolves around the idea that a single occurrence, regardless of how small it may be, changes the course of the universe. A great way to understand the idea of the Butterfly effect is to look at the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The day of the assassination, Ferdinand and his wife were in a car touring the location of Sarajevo when a Serbian nationalist threw a bomb at the car. The bomb would roll off the car, wounding several bystanders. Later that day, Ferdinand and his wife Sophie rode to visit with the bystanders. On the way, the driver takes a wrong turn and an individual shoots both Franz and Sophie and they both pass away. The idea of the Butterfly Effect is that if the driver had not taken a wrong turn, it is possible they would not have been assassinated and, in turn, World War 1 could have started differently. The Butterfly Effect focuses on a small ripple creating larger ripples in the future.
3. Hollow Earth
The Hollow Earth theory is the conspiracy theory that the Earth is hollow with entrances at the North and South Poles. Within the Hollow Earth, there is thought to be a central sun and underground civilizations that are much more technologically advanced than on the surface. There have been claims by several people that they have found Hollow Earth and visited.
4. Landing on the Moon
There is one theory still active today that the Moon Landings were fake. In the film of the moon landing, the flag moves. Critics say that because of the movement, he was no in space because the wind is impossible in a vacuum.
5. The Moon is a Hologram
Not only are there theories that the landing on the Moon is fake, but the internet has been questioning the existence of the Moon altogether after using high-definition telescope cameras showed the Moon through the telescope had a “lunar wave”. The state of the camera was questioned at first but, the clip caught both a first and second wave in a way that the camera could not have malfunctioned.
6. We’re a Simulation
The theory that we are living in a computer simulation is the idea that future civilizations wanted to be able to view historical societies and how we lived like. So, they would create a simulation of the past and we are now in it. Individuals such as Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, believe that it is more likely that we are in a simulation rather than not. Stemming from the theory of simulation, there is an idea to prove we are in a simulation by stating that things such as déjà vu, supernatural beings and other things we do not know how to explain are glitches.

Real or not, conspiracy theories have been quite the speculation as of late, discussing everything from the idea that we are in a simulation, to the idea that there is a civilization on our “Hollow Earth”. Are there any conspiracy theories you are questioning yourself?
